June PWR! Move of the Month

Dr. Becky Farley shows us this month’s Move of the Month

What makes PWR!Moves different from other exercises?  They were developed from the beginning to target the dopamine circuits by directly targeting “4” essential skills that underlie function!  These skills include strengthening the extensors (muscles on your back side responsible for posture), weight shifting, spinal mobility, and transitional movements (or ability to change positions).  In PWR!Moves training, these PD-specific skills are performed with full range of motion using high effort for big and fast whole body movements to target the symptoms of bradykinesia (slow/small movement) and rigidity (muscle stiffness).  They may also be linked together to form sequences to address incoordination and cognition deficits.
Finally, as you can see in this video, your PWR! Professional “coach” can take a common how to buy effexor online everyday problem like “moving in bed” or “getting out of bed”, and break it down into the essential skills. They can then create a novel functional routine to address your specific goals!  This makes therapy FUNctional!  Auditory cueing (metronome) improves the automaticity of these complex and novel sequences so that additional real world challenges can be added that challenge cognition (require self-monitoring, problem solving, dual tasking, quick decision making, adaptation to novel and unpredictable environmental conditions). ENDLESS possibilities!!  Research shows that you need to be challenged physically and cognitively to do more than you think you can; and only then may you be surprised to find you can do more than you know!
